A Neighbourhood Street With Busy Floors

Locke Street South is one of Hamilton's most popular shopping streets, a stretch of cafés, restaurants, bakeries, boutiques, salons and small studios running south from Main Street West through Kirkendall. The Locke Street BIA represents the businesses along it. Most of them are small, independently owned, and busy from breakfast through to the evening.

Those hours leave a narrow cleaning window, usually early in the morning before staff arrive. We come in, clean the front of house, the customer washroom and the floor, and leave before the first shift starts. Call 289 803 4495 to talk about your space.

Working on Locke

Locke's buildings are mostly older two- and three-storey brick storefronts, with narrow front entrances and small back rooms. Crews bring compact equipment and agree with you whether to use the front door or a rear entrance from the lane. Space for storing supplies on site is usually tight, so the crew brings what it needs each visit.

Restaurants and cafés on the street need two kinds of work: a daily clean of the dining room and washrooms, and a regular degrease of the kitchen floor. Shops need clear glass, a clean entrance and a floor that holds up to steady traffic. Salons and studios need extra attention to hair, product residue and mirrors.

Winter is hard on Locke floors. Salt and slush come in from the sidewalk all day, and wood and tile floors in older buildings show it quickly.

Timing on Locke is tight because many businesses open early. Bakeries and cafés start baking and brewing before 7 am, so their front-of-house clean has to happen late the night before or very early, around their prep. Boutiques and salons open later, which leaves more room in the morning. Where two or three neighbouring businesses use us, we line their visits up on one route so the crew moves from door to door without losing time, which helps keep each small account affordable. Garbage and recycling matter here too: shared bins behind the shops fill fast, and we leave them tidy and sorted so collection isn't refused.

Floor Care on Locke Street

For most businesses on the street, floors are where cleaning makes the biggest visible difference. Older hardwood, tile and vinyl all need different care.

  • Daily dust-mopping and damp-mopping before opening
  • Scrub and recoat or strip and wax on a set rotation
  • Extra entrance work and salt removal from November to April

Locke Street Cleaning Questions

Can you clean before a café opens?

Yes. We agree a time the crew must be finished by, often an hour or more before opening, so the room and washroom are done when your team walks in.

Can you refinish the floor in a small shop?

Yes. Smaller floors are often done in one overnight visit, with time for the finish to cure before the shop opens.
